My mom asked if we would like to get a 3D ultra sound done. I thought that it was no big deal, since we didn't do it when I was pregnant with our daughter. My mom told me that it would be fun to have and that my mom and dad would love to do it for us. Well we thought that it would be fun to take Morgan our daughter and she could see her little brother on the screen.
Thursday July 1st 2010, I will never forget this night. While driving down to Payson for the ultra sound, I kept feeling nervous and thought that it was weird that I would get nervous for just a fun 3D ultra sound. During the ultra sound Morgan would ask if that was her brother and said that he was cute and looked like a puppy, after a while during the ultra sound Morgan turns to her dad and said: "Baby brother is sick." We didn't think anything of it and just thought that she was thinking that because we were in a doctors office. We told her that he was fine.
Right after Morgan saying that baby brother is sick, then the ultra sound tech said that usually during 3D ultra sounds that he normally doesn't look at the organs but just wanted to take a look and see how things were going. The last place he checked was our little guys heart. He stopped and looked at me and said: "I normally wouldn't say this to my normal patients, but since we are family and I think that you should know this now. I have been doing this for 20 plus years and your babies heart does not look normal." My heart just sunk, I thought to myself; "What went wrong, why is this happening." I couldn't even say anything.
When we got done with our appointment it was too late to call my OB and the next day was his day off. The next day I called my OB's office, and told the on call doctors nurse about the 3D ultra sound. She referred me to Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor that day.
